The meeting place of the excellencies of Christ is found in His ascension and condescension. Our Lord is both the Lion and the Lamb. A reigning warrior king yet a meek and lowly savior that had no place to lay His head. His wisdom is of the highest order yet He condescends and receives only those whose faith is in the manner of children. He knows the most numerous of riches and the emptiest forms of poverty.
The symmetry of His condescension and ascension makes Him that Great High Priest who is able to sympathize in our every weakness. His condescension and ascension could not be accomplished by anyone not because of a lack of power. It could not accomplished by anyone else because no one else’s nature could be in harmony with it. No one else can empty himself of all things and receive all of Heaven and Earth worthily.
Our hearts can have no rest till they have their rest in Him because of His excellencies that far surpass all degrees and types of joys and sorrows. He sympathizes because He has excelled. He is worthy of all honor, glory, and power. Christ is our sweetness because He has taken on our bitterness.
