Our souls have only one comfort, and it is in the resolute faithfulness of God.
Through every passing season there is waxing and waning of our hearts towards the Lord. In one our souls are fat and full of love. In the next our bones have dried up the marrow. No matter how unstable our hearts are they may still refuge in this: He who calls you is faithful; He will surely sanctify you completely, and your whole spirit and soul and body shall be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
How may we not fear when waters foam, the earth trembles, and mountains fall into the sea? Because God is in the midst; the One whose words never fail and never cease. He speaks, “Comfort, comfort my people” and it shall never be otherwise. He watches as a caring Father, and tends the needs of His children. Has any of them lacked something to eat, something to drink, something to wear, or a place to lay their head? Never! It may be grim now. It may be dark. But He is gracious to give you just enough light for the next step. He has gone before His children and has prepared their provision in the workings of providence. How can we trust Him to prepare for us many mansions if we cannot trust Him for our daily bread? He is faithful beyond our great needs. Trust His faithfulness!
“Behold, the LORD God comes with might, and his arm rules with him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.” - Isaiah 40:10,11
