Our God Hears and Answers Prayer
Our high and exalted God hears and answers prayer by His excellent nature. He is a God who delights in the hearing and answering the prayers of His children. Our voices are sweet to His ears because we who have faith in Christ are of Christ’s fold. “O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the crannies of the rock, let me see your face, let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely” (Song of Solomon 2:14).
We have boldness at the foot of throne of grace because our access to the Father was bought by Christ’s work. We are given new garments and are ordained into a royal priesthood. We are given the right to ask whatever we wish because we are in Christ and His words are in us.
Our Father freely gives and is primed to give. He gave us Christ shall He not freely give us all things? His abundant grace and mercy is ready to be lavished on those that are His.
Our prayers and His will are made harmonious by the Holy Spirit. They are not opposed but linked. His Holy Spirit purifies and shapes our souls to desire the Lord and He shall gives us the desires of our heart. We will petition that our will would be His and that not one desire would be out of step with His providence.
This is a meeting place with our God. Prayer is not where we command Him to do this or that. It is where God voluntarily condescends to His children, picking them up, placing them on His lap to give them what He desires to give them. Our desire must be made to desire what God desires to give to us. We pray that we would not spend our blessings on our lusts but that His will would be a sweet aroma to our souls and a balm that heals our broken hearts.
“Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear” (Isaiah 65:24).
